Families Across the UK Urged to Swap Santa’s Mince Pie for a Meal for Someone in Need This Christmas

This Christmas, families are being encouraged to start a new festive tradition: donating the cost of Santa’s mince pie to help someone who would otherwise go hungry.

Soup Kitchen London has teamed up with creative agency Wonderhood Studios on a new Christmas campaign, ‘Sorry Santa’, inviting people to donate just £5.55 – the cost of a mince pie, sherry and Rudolph’s carrot – to provide meals for people in need over the festive period.

At the heart of the campaign is a playful Christmas Eve plate reading ‘Sorry, Santa, we’ve donated to Soup Kitchen instead.’ Designed to sit where the mince pie would usually be left, the plate offers families a simple way to turn a familiar festive ritual into a meaningful act of kindness.

Running primarily on social media, the campaign is supported by a range of celebrities, influencers, including WhatWillyCook, and Love Islands India Reynolds, who are encouraging audiences to start their own ‘Sorry Santa’ tradition by donating to Soup Kitchen, London.

Alex Brown, Director of Soup Kitchen London said:
“Wonderhood Studios has been a phenomenal partner for Soup Kitchen London over the years. They understand that our mission isn’t just about awareness, it’s about action. Their support helps us provide a consistent service for hundreds of vulnerable people each week, and we’re incredibly grateful for their vision, hard work and their brilliant team who consistently go above and beyond to drive meaningful support.”

Creators of the campaign, Holly Nash and Alysha Radia from Wonderhood Studios added:
‘Every Christmas, we make sure Santa is well looked after – but there are millions of real people who will go without food during the festive period. We wanted to create a simple, joyful way for families to redirect that generosity to someone who really needs it, and hopefully start a new tradition along the way.’

The campaign builds on Wonderhood Studios and Soup Kitchen London’s ongoing partnership to highlight the reality of homelessness, especially over the Christmas period. Previous work has included recreating the real meals people experiencing homelessness have eaten on Christmas Day, and partnering with Just Eat to enable the public to send hot meals directly to those in need.
