Camden’s Children’s Centres and Family Hubs have been buzzing with community spirit this week, as families from across the borough joined a series of festive events.
Throughout the week, Children’s Centres and Family Hubs across Camden opened their doors for festive drop-in events with more than 425 people attending across the sites. These sessions gave families the chance to pick up free donated toys, books, tooth-brushing kits, and pre-loved clothing for both adults and children.
Warm refreshments, friendly conversations, and opportunities to learn more about the year-round hub services helped to make each event a welcoming community moment. Father Christmas even made a special appearance at Kilburn Grange Children’s Centre and Family Hub.
Councillor Marcus Boyland, Cabinet Member for Best Start for Children and Families, said:
“Our Children’s Centres and Family Hubs are at the heart of local communities all year round, and this week’s festive events have shown just how important these spaces are for families. Whether picking up a warm coat, choosing a book to take home, or simply enjoying a chat over a hot drink, these hubs help families feel connected, supported, and valued.”
Across all sites, cosmetic retailer Lush donated products, charity Little Village donated toys, books and pre-loved clothes, and toy manufacturer Hasbro also donated some toys. A raffle took place during the festive event at Kilburn Grange Children’s Centre and Family Hub, with prizes presented by Councillor Boyland and the Mayor of Camden, Councillor Eddie Hanson.
Resident Ann-Marie was one of the lucky winners and said:
“I never win anything, so this is really special. What a great way to start the Christmas period! I’ve been coming to the Children’s Centre and Family hub for years – with my own children and now my grandchild. It’s a great place to connect and get some helpful advice.”
With the festive drop-ins now wrapped up, families can still look forward to a few seasonal celebrations in the coming days at Kilburn Grange Children’s Centre and Family Hub. Free cooking workshops for all the family will take place on Monday 22 December and Tuesday 23 December, and festivities will culminate on Christmas Eve (24 December) with the annual Family Hubs Christmas Lunch where guests will enjoy a warm, home‑cooked festive meal. Booking is essential due to limited spaces.
