LOCAL businesses bearing the brunt of London’s pollution are being offered a FREE New Year’s spruce thanks to cleaning and maintenance experts Fantastic Services.
As well as having serious implications on people’s respiratory health, the capital’s dirty air can also wreak havoc on the store fronts and fascias of the city’s many independent traders.
Inspired by Keep Britain Tidy, the Fantastic Refresh Campaign is offering a jet washing service to those in need — and at no charge.
Owner and co-founder of Fantastic Services Anton Skarlatov was inspired to lend a helping hand on one of many much-loved walks around the city’s streets.
He said: “We appreciate that keeping the facade of buildings clean and tidy is never easy, especially in a busy and dirty city like London.
“While a clean image is great for business, for many companies it is not really a priority.
“But the habits I’ve gained running a domestic services company mean it’s almost impossible not to notice the amount of dirt and litter on pavements, street corners, side streets and alleyways — and even on the facades of nice little local companies.
“So we want to do our bit to give local businesses a little boost with a free jet wash, and hopefully bring back a little sparkle and shine to at least a few parts of London!”
Although they have been steadily improving over recent years, air pollution in the UK’s capital and other urban areas have been at illegal levels since 2010.
Central London is the worst-affected area and the most polluted location is thought to be Marble Arch, which recorded five times the limit set by the EU according to researchers from Kings College and Transport for London.
But the Fantastic Refresh Campaign has already done its bit to give some of London’s favourite watering holes a new clean look, such as the Greenwich Tavern in Greenwich and Camden’s The World’s End.
Other eligible establishments include local restaurants, bakeries and butchers shops, clothes or shoe shops, and independent shops of all kinds.
To nominate a favourite local business — or even your own — sign up via the Fantastic Service Facebook page.
Entrants will be required to enter their name and email address, as well as the name and postcode of the nominee.
