Last night EE, the UK’s largest subscription business, marked a new era with a larger-than-life performance by iconic British DJ, Fatboy Slim, on the world’s biggest holographic stage. Livestreamed to the nation, the one of a kind set towered 50 metres above Alexandra Palace and lit up the London skyline.
Fatboy Slim mesmerised audiences in attendance and watching online with the out of this world show, as he was joined in the sky for the world’s largest holographic performance by a host of real fans from across the nation. The innovative and entertaining dance routines to his famous track Praise You were submitted over the last week on social media for the chance to be a backing dancer for their musical hero.
Hosted by TV & Radio Presenter, Pips Taylor, the evening saw fans at Alexandra Palace wait in anticipation for the surprise performer to be revealed, applauding as the intro to Right Here, Right Now beamed across the London skyline, announcing new EE to the nation. As tall as the leaning tower of Pisa, audiences were amazed by the visual spectacle as Fatboy Slim appeared as a 50-metre-high holographic DJ in the sky.
The star-studded guest list including Ashley Roberts, Ella Eyre, Max George, Maisie Smith, Lucy Watson, Yinka Bokinii and Pips Taylor, continued to dance under the night sky while sipping on drinks by champagne partner Taittinger. Fatboy Slim followed up with an electrifying performance of Praise You, featuring a chorus of virtual backing dancers from across the country. The fans, who were sourced from a social media competition that also saw one lucky winner attend the secret set in-person, virtually took to the skies for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the DJ on stage, dancing in unison to the hit track. Fatboy Slim ended his larger-than-life performance with an equally as lively version of The Rockafeller Skank.
Fatboy Slim, DJ and producer said: “Last night was a wild ride! We took over London’s skyline and made history. A massive shout out to all those fans who joined me on the world’s biggest holographic stage to kickstart a brand-new era for EE.”
The holographic stage was created utilising the latest visual technology with live footage of Fatboy Slim projected onto a 50-metre tall and 30-metre wide holo-gauze, suspended from the ground by two heavy-duty cranes. The porous nature of the holo-gauze meant that it caught elements of the projection whilst allowing some of the light beams to pass through it, create a stunning holographic effect that stood tall across the backdrop of London’s iconic skyline.
Christian Thrane, MD Marketing at EE commented: “Last night we made history as New EE with the world’s largest holographic performance featuring one on the nation’s best loved DJs. New EE is committed to becoming the UK’s most personal, customer-focused technology brand so we are proud to have been able to give people up and down the country a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform on the world’s biggest holographic stage with their musical hero, Fatboy Slim.”
