Over 200 attendees enjoyed a day filled with festive treats and amazing musical performances at E-ACT City Heights Academy’s annual Community Winter Fair.
One of the highlights was a stunning performance by the Brixton Chamber Orchestra in the main hall, where visitors enjoyed a mix of classic and more contemporary pieces, including Silent Night, New York, New York, and Reach for the Stars. Making the performance even more special, two talented City Heights students confidently took to the stage during the open mic session, expertly rapping alongside the orchestra and impressing the crowd.
A host of local community groups joined the festivities, including Rekindle, St. Matthew’s Project, High Trees, and Fresh Visions Youth, who shared the incredible work they do in the area. Repowering London was also on hand, offering valuable energy-saving advice to help residents manage their energy costs whilst Healthwatch Lambeth advocated for community members by raising awareness of local health and social care services and gathering feedback.
Families and children enjoyed a range of festive activities throughout the day, with face painting, cookie decorating, card-making, and jewellery making to enjoy. The excitement continued with a visit from Father Christmas and his elf, who gave out gifts to lots of smiling happy children.
The event was also a treat for food lovers, with popcorn, candy floss, dhal soup with naan, mince pies, and hot chocolate all on offer to warm everyone up on a winter’s day.
The day was made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters, including Manchester United Foundation, who donated football kits, jackets and other goodies as raffle prizes. Southern Housing, Notting Hill Genesis, and MTVH’s generous funding made the free activities possible. The event was also supported by local residents who volunteered their time to steward and help run the activities.
Headteacher Marvin Charles said:
“The Community Winter Fair was a wonderful way to bring together families, local groups, and students to celebrate the season. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to making the day a success.
” A special mention goes to our 12 City Heights student ambassadors, who welcomed visitors, helped lead activities, and represented our academy’s values of excellence and community spirit throughout the day.
“It was a real festive highlight for our community and we’re looking forward to building on this for next year!”
