Festive activities in Spitalfields Market continue with a number of exciting Christmassy experiences taking place across the iconic historic market in December. Shoppers can enjoy a brand new light display illuminating the network of high streets, a giant Christmas tree by Habitat, a theatre pop-up and family-friendly workshops.
Lighting up Market Street, Lamb Street and Brushfield Street, the brand new LED light installation will be a permanent fixture of the Spitalfields Market to bring joy to passers-by.
In a collaboration with Spitalfields, the Tree-mendous tree by Habitat will be unveiled on Tuesday 12 December, and central to the display is the spectacular baubles filled with life-size Habitat products, from housing the best-selling Jericho Natural Side Tab to the Rahnn Confetti Glass Table Lamp. The giant Christmas tree is inspired by Habitat’s ethos of providing UK homes with affordable furniture and accessories for over 50 years. Shoppers will have the chance to win product giveaways by the Christmas tree on 12, 16, 17, 23 & 24 December, with prizes ranging from candles and chopping boards to give homes a merry makeover.
The Greenhouse Theatre has just opened its winter pop-up on 8 Market Street. The UK’s first zero-waste theatre will be running a Christmassy events programme and debuting a new play The Lost Library of Spitalfields Market that will run for a limited time until 24 December.
The Greenhouse Theatre will also provide festive fun for family and friends with a range of creative activities, including carol sing-alongs, board game nights, festive pub quizzes and live music performances. What’s more, shoppers visiting the East London market can enjoy family-friendly artistic workshops like wreath making, candle painting, festive cooking and a scavenger hunt.
For those looking to live a more eco-conscious lifestyle, there will be a second-hand shop, a clothes repair workshop and free sustainable gift wrapping to delight loved ones. There will also be a zero-waste bar serving a wide range of refreshments to get merry and fight off the winter chill, including mulled wine and hot cider.
