The prestigious “Regulating the Game” conference comes to London for the first time in its history in September. The five-day education programme is already well-known in Australia, where it presents an opportunity for gambling industry organisations and individuals to build on their knowledge of the sector. It’s also a major networking event where new ideas and developments in the area of gambling regulation are discussed.
Arrangements for the London event are well advanced. It will be held at One Moorgate Place in the heart of the UK capital. The venue is only eight minutes away from London City Airport and is also within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick.
The UK is an appropriate place to expand the reach of Regulating the Game due to the popularity of gambling in the country. As an example, according to Statista, From April 2020 to September 2020, the gross gambling yield (GGY) of bingo, casino gambling, and online betting in the UK was £3.1 billion.
Much of the gambling provision in the UK is regulated by the UK Gambling Commission. To be regulated, UK-based casinos must be part of the GAMSTOP programme which allows players to exclude themselves from playing at all UK-based casinos. However, many UK players choose to play at UK casinos not on GAMSTOP, that are based overseas. The regulation of gambling in the UK and elsewhere is on the agenda for discussion at the “Regulating the Game” conference.
Areas for discussion at Regulating the Game in London
As the name of the event suggests, the main focus of the conference is the regulations of gambling. When the attendees gather in London, they will discuss topics including,
This is not a prescriptive list. The items for discussion are numerous and varied. The overall aim is to allow people to share knowledge, ideas, and innovations to take regulation in the gambling industry forward.
30 under 30 initiative at the event
Paul Newson has spoken about the event in London. Newson is the Principal at Senet, organisers of the conference. He spoke about the importance of “evidence-based policy conversations” and “cultivating regulatory and sector leadership” in the industry. He also said that attendees at the conference need to consider how to prevent financial crime while promoting vibrant and safe gameplay.
Considering the need for a wide-ranging and diverse discussion, the organisers of “Regulating the Game” in London are keen to attract both senior leaders and more junior members of the industry. With this in mind, Senet has created the 30 under 30 initiative. This initiative means that 30 registrations at September’s event are reserved for young leaders in the industry as well as rising talent.
Giving these young professionals an opportunity to attend the event presents them with the opportunity to network and build their careers. It also brings a young, innovative, and fresh perspective to regulation in the gambling industry.
This is the first time a “Regulating the Game” conference has happened in London, although the event is well-recognised in Australia. Expanding its geographical reach gives the organisers of the event an opportunity to engage with a more diverse group of industry professionals who possess a range of valuable regulatory knowledge and insights.
