There’s a lot of love for the humble fish finger sandwich – and with it being an iconic part of British culture, everyone has an opinion on what store cupboard ingredients come together to make the perfect version.
Hoping to put an end to the nation’s dispute with a search to find the best fish finger sandwich recipe in Britain, Birds Eye launched ‘The Birds Eye Butties 2020’ last month. Sarnie connoisseurs across the country submitted their recipes via the Birds Eye Facebook and Instagram pages, and it’s been revealed that one of the recipes in the line up to be the UK’s ultimate fish finger sandwich has been created in London.
The delicious MumbaiLieveable Butty, cooked up by Barnet-based Neha Gandesha, consists of a brioche bun filled with three Birds Eye Fish Fingers, tandoori masala spiced Greek yoghurt, grated cucumber and red apple. This is then topped with red onion, fresh mint, coriander and green chillies.
Having been selected out of almost 300 entries, Neha is thrilled to potentially be crowned the competition winner later this month. She commented: “I invented this recipe for my grandfather – he loved Mumbai sandwiches, Birds Eye Fish Fingers and strong flavours so I combined all three things together to make him the ultimate Mumbai Fish Finger Butty. I’ve now started making this recipe for both my husband and dad who absolutely love it too. I’m so excited to be chosen as one of the four finalists in ‘The Birds Eye Butties 2020.’”
In the other three finalists’ fish finger butties you will find halloumi and crushed garden peas, a poached egg with smashed avocado and a Birds Eye Potato Waffle filled with grated cheese in the holes.
The four finalists’ recipes have now gone to a public vote in a bid to be crowned the Queen of ‘The Birds Eye Butties 2020’. As well as receiving the coveted title, the winner will receive a year’s supply of Birds Eye Fish Fingers*.
