On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August, Leicester Square comes alive with a spectacular celebration of creativity and culture, featuring live theatre and cinema experiences, and more as part of Inside Out festival, presented by Discover Leicester
Square.
The heart of London takes centre stage for a jam-packed weekend of free, all-ages entertainment — from a Saturday evening silent disco spinning iconic film soundtracks and West End musical classics in one of the world’s most famous city gardens, to a full Sunday
of workshops where families can explore the magic of cinema and musical theatre.
Curated by Discover Leicester Square, expect craft sessions, face painting, interactive games, and larger-than-life characters, as the square celebrates the joy of storytelling and performance. Families can also look forward to surprise appearances from beloved
West End productions – including special visits from the casts of The Tiger Who Came To Tea and
Horrible Histories, plus more to be announced.
Turning the streets into a giant playground, visitors can also explore Scenes in the Square – Leicester Square’s iconic movie statue trail, celebrating its fifth anniversary and featuring film favourites like Paddington, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins and Bugs
Bunny. While immersed in London’s entertainment district, budding young witches and wizards can even experience special Wand Combat workshops led by Paul Harris – the Wand Choreographer for the instantly recognisable wand combat seen in several of the
Harry Potter films – taking place near the Harry Potter statue.
With Leicester Square’s gardens offering green space for picnics and play, and London’s top cinemas, shops, restaurants and hotels just steps away, it’s the perfect weekend in the capital. Inside Out Festival is a free summer arts programme with a mix of events
for all ages across the borough, run by Westminster City Council.
Kirsty Tullett-Jones, Director of Marketing and Communications, Discover Leicester Square
says, “We can’t wait to bring the spirit of Inside Out to Leicester Square this summer, turning the creativity usually found inside theatres and cinemas, out into the square for everyone to enjoy. With family-friendly entertainment, live experiences, and
our Scenes in the Square trail celebrating iconic movie moments, it’s a brilliant chance to enjoy the magic of London’s entertainment district in a whole new way.”
Free festival tickets will be available on Eventbrite from Friday 25 July.
