Windrush Day – The 22nd of June marks the anniversary of the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush on the 22nd June 1948. According to records, the ship was carrying 1,027 passengers. On this day we recognise and thank all those who arrived on Empire Windrush, and their descendants, for the enormous contributions they made to Britain during its recovery from the Second World War and have continued to make ever since.
The event will bring the community together and honour the incredible stories, traditions, and legacies that make British Caribbean Heritage so vibrant.
For the past 109 years, the Market has captured the hearts and minds of visitors, residents, and traders alike and in the process built deep ties to the surrounding area in which it serves. Shepherd’s Bush Market is delighted to be celebrating Windrush Day with our traders and community.
