Londoners will have plenty of opportunities to get involved with children’s charity the NSPCC this December, starting with a Christmas show starring former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner and hosted by Charlene White.
Merry Little Christmas, at Cadogan Hall in Chelsea, will take place on Tuesday, December 10th and will also feature readings and performances by; Heidi Range, Pandora Sykes, Shaniqua Okwok, James McConnel, The Kingdom Choir who performed at Harry and Meghan’s wedding, and Britain’s Got Talent’s The BIG Sing.
All ticket holders will receive a glass of prosecco (or non-alcoholic alternative) and a festive treat, with thanks to the Sparkling Reception sponsor Lindt. The cost of the ticket will help Childline answer the thousands of calls they’ll receive from children in crisis this festive season.
Darren Worth, Service Head of Helplines for Childline, said: “Join us for a festive show that truly makes a difference.
“While children are full of questions at Christmas, many in the UK have more serious questions, such as how to stay safe from abuse and cope with being alone.
“On average, a child will contact Childline by phone or web chat every 45 seconds during the festive season. That’s why Childline volunteers will be available every day and night, ready to listen to children who have no one else to turn to. They help children feel a little less alone.”
Over the past two years, the event has raised a combined total of more than £125,000 for Childline.
Throughout December, shoppers on Oxford Street will treated to a performance from Ebony Steel Band in aid of the NSPCC, and those wanting to go the extra mile can take part in the charity’s Walk for Children fundraiser on December 21st.
Walk for Children will see people walking 5K in their local area on the longest night of the year, because for children suffering abuse, every night feels like the longest.
There will be an NSPCC charity gift wrap stop at Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre on Tuesday, December 10th, and on the following day an NSPCC stall will be at Shepperton Big Tree Night!
Chloe Cuthill, NSPCC London Community Fundraising Manager said: “We can’t wait to see shoppers at our upcoming Christmas events across London. The NSPCC relies on voluntary donations for most of its income which is why your help and support is so important at this time of year!”
Parents and grandparents may also want to order an NSPCC Letter From Santa, with personalised details. There are eight designs to choose from and each letter is printed and posted in a festive envelope.
Letters can be ordered online on the NSPCC website for a contribution of £8 per letter. Santa’s mail room is taking orders until Thursday, December 19th, so there is still plenty of time!
