Last night, the plans for Poets’ Corner – a new neighbourhood in the heart of Harrow – were officially approved. This marks a big step forward in transforming the area, creating new homes and green public spaces that local people can enjoy and be proud of.
Developed through a partnership between the London Borough of Harrow and Wates Residential, Poets’ Corner will bring over 1,000 well-designed apartments. The first phase includes more than 100 new council homes, while a new Green Flag Park and community square, will create spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Cllr Marilyn Ashton, Deputy Leader and Planning & Regeneration Portfolio Holder, said:
“With planning approval now secured, Poets’ Corner is moving from blueprint to thriving community. We’re creating homes that people can afford, green spaces to enjoy, and better local services. This is about building a neighbourhood that reflects Harrow’s future – and gives people a place they’re proud to call home.”
The old council offices on Station Road will be transformed into a vibrant, green and welcoming new neighbourhood. Thoughtfully designed buildings will complement the nearby homes and streets, helping the new neighbourhood feel connected and part of the wider community. There’s also potential for a new health centre.
Paul Nicholls, Regional Managing Director, Wates Residential said:
“Poets Corner is a game-changer for Harrow and for London. Securing planning permission for over 1,000 new homes is an exciting step forward – not just in terms of numbers, but in the quality of place we’re creating.
“We’re thrilled to be working with London Borough of Harrow to bring this vision to life.”
Poets Corner is just a short walk from Harrow & Wealdstone station and served by five bus routes. New walking and cycling paths will help people travel easily and safely between Harrow and Wealdstone town centres, and beyond.
