Open to the public from today, 17 March, to 4 June 2023, some of the biggest and most sought-after names in art and technology converge in a vast post-industrial warehouse space in the Royal Docks to inaugurate one of the UK’s largest and most significant new art spaces to open in recent years.

Thin Air is the Beams’ first visual arts exhibition and is a transformative journey through 55,000 square feet of interconnecting environments bringing together monumental works by emerging, global contemporary creatives working with light, atmospherics, sound and experimental digital media.

Participating artists and collectives are: Robert Henke, Matthew Schreiber, James Clar, Kimchi and Chips with Rosa Menkman, 404.Zero, S E T U P, and The UCLA Arts Conditional Studio with Goldsmiths. Some present new works, whilst other present site-specific adaptations of installations in direct response to the unique surroundings.

The show is produced by Broadwick Live in collaboration with arts and culture consultancy That Right There, and curated by digital artist and curator Alex Czetwertynski.

The Beams is the latest transformational project by Broadwick Live, who have a long track record bringing opportunities and creativity to unlikely places, preserving and reimagining disused industrial spaces, into much loved venues with loyal audiences. Thin Air is partnering with local schools and offering tickets free of charge, as well as offering an allocation of free of charge tickets for the local community.

The Beams is a highly anticipated centre for new culture, which opened doors right in the industrial heart of the Royal Docks. A magnet for creative production, the Royal Docks is fast becoming home to some of the capital’s finest artists and cultural organisations. With world-class events, festivals and exhibitions creating an irresistible creative scene for visitors and locals, the Royal Docks’ diverse and thought-provoking programme of activities is underpinning the area’s resurgence as London’s cultural engine.
