The team and homeowners based at the Brio Retirement Living development, Button House, in Hackbridge, have been dazzled by the talent of pupils at Hackbridge Primary School and Nursery as they were snowed under with entries for their recent Christmas card competition.
The school entered more than 60 stunning pieces of art created by pupils’ keen to win one of three prizes including Amazon vouchers, art sets and selection boxes – with the overall winner being ‘the face’ of Button House’s Christmas card list with the honour of their design going to print as the official 2025 design.
Children aged from five to eleven years spent their time drawing snowmen, angels and Christmas trees – with the winning design created by Vedika, age nine, featuring many famous sites of London including the London Eye, Big Ben, the famous red buses, black cabs and a very Christmassy Button House – which is located adjacent to Hackbridge Primary School.
Karl Mlynarczyk, General Manager at Button House, shared: “We were overwhelmed by the number of cards submitted into our competition and the standard of art was just fantastic! Initially our Brio team selected nine stunning designs and our homeowners then voted for their top three favourites.
“It was a close contest, but Vedika’s festive imagination won us over – including her traditional drawings of Christmas trees and people skating at our beautiful Hampton Court Palace ice rink – meant she received the overall vote of first place. A huge congratulations to Vedika and we’re thrilled to send the final printed card to colleagues, local businesses, customers of our Slate & Grain onsite brasserie and our friends of Button House.”
The children from Hackbridge Primary are well known to the team and homeowners at Button House – with some having Grandparents living within the luxury development – and received a festive welcome today whilst they collected their prizes. First prize went to Vedika, second to Amelia, age eight, and third prize was awarded to Amayyah, age six.
Karl concluded: “We do many creative activities with the local primary school throughout the year and it’s a joy to welcome them to our development. Only last week did we all join in Christmas carols together – it was so lovely and we, and Hackbridge Primary, encourage intergenerational social events as they really do benefit everyone and especially light up faces at this time of year.
“Not everyone has a bright and happy Christmas so we’re also collecting for The Sutton Night Watch via our annual Reverse Advent Calendar campaign. Many children dropped off items during their visit, and we’re thrilled to be able to hand over our pile of much-needed items to the charity later this month. We’re collecting until Christmas Eve so we’re welcoming any non-perishable items that can be spared from anyone’s Christmas food shop. From everyone at Button House, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
