Nine games into the Premier League season and the table is beginning to resemble some sort of structure that might give fans a clue as to who might end up where when the daffodils begin to bloom. For fans of Fulham Football Club, that is not a comforting thought, as Marco Silva’s men lie 17th in the table and have lost their last four games. As such, the only fitting question to ask is whether the Cottagers are in a relegation fight?
Odds Paint a Worrying Picture
The latest football odds suggest that going down still remains somewhat unlikely, with Fulham around 5/1 in the relegation market.
However, if you had placed an English Premier League bet on Fulham going down before the season started, you would have got odds of 7/1 on the Craven Cottage side being relegated.

In short, Fulham’s odds are shortening by the week, and there might be good reason to believe it’s not just a blip.
A Summer of Stagnation
The inescapable truth is that Fulham’s problems didn’t start in October. They were written in the summer, when Silva’s frustrations over a quiet transfer window became impossible to hide. The club signed just two first-team players permanently, and while both were smart recruitments, neither has yet adapted to the intensity of the Premier League. You might say, then, that Fulham’s transfer inactivity across June, July and August left them short of depth, relying heavily on an ageing core.
It will be particularly galling for Silva, who made it clear before the season kicked off that his squad was light. “We need to reinforce. In some positions, we are very short,” he warned in August, words that now feel prophetic. The squad remains the joint-smallest in the Premier League at 23 players and the oldest on average.
A Crisis of Confidence
After five games, Fulham sat comfortably mid-table with eight points. Four matches later, that total hasn’t changed. They have taken the lead in matches against Aston Villa and Bournemouth, only to lose both 3–1, a pattern that speaks to their inability to manage key moments.

There is also a worrying lack of control defensively, with just one clean sheet so far, and an over-reliance on goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who continues to paper over cracks.
What Comes Next
Fulham’s immediate fixtures against Wolves, Everton and Crystal Palace are crucial. These are the kinds of games that define whether a season drifts into trouble or stabilises. If the Cottagers can pick up points and get key players fit, they should climb clear of danger. But fail to do so, and the relegation talk will only grow louder.
Complicating matters further is Silva’s contract situation. He is out of contract next summer, and interest from abroad remains. If Fulham loses him mid-season, it could accelerate a slide that already feels hard to stop.
At Craven Cottage, they will tell you there’s no reason to panic just yet and that things can turn quickly in football. But for a fanbase that has seen too many yo-yo seasons, that reassurance will ring hollow if results do not follow soon.
The river outside may still flow steadily past, but there’s a sinking feeling on the banks of the Thames that Fulham could be swept into another relegation fight before winter is out.
