Have your say on how we get Greenwich to be more physically active

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is inviting residents to share their views and help shape the borough’s new ‘Greenwich Get Active’ physical activity and sport strategy.

The strategy will set out how the council supports and encourages people across Greenwich to move more, whatever their age, background, or ability.

In 2024, the council asked residents about their priorities for physical activity and sport, and the barriers faced to being more active. Residents provided ideas and feedback on their experiences, and now we want to find out more about:

How much you move throughout the day
Who needs more support to move more
Where you want to be active
What types of activities you would like to partake in locally, and
How can we raise awareness and communicate local support and initiatives to you.
Councillor Mariam Lolavar, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Borough of Sanctuary said: “A recent study by Nuffield Health, Frontier Economics and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) found that people with sore joints who exercise for two hours a week have less pain, visit their GP less and take less sick leave. If movement were a pill, it would be the most powerful drug on the planet, yet it remains under-prescribed.

“We understand that getting started or keeping going can be difficult, so we want to hear from you, our residents, about what would make it easier you to get active. We know that finding the time, space or confidence to exercise can be challenge for many. This consultation is about listening to residents, working together to create a strategy that works for everyone, and removing the barriers that exist in getting everyone to be active. I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to have their say and help us to build a borough where everyone’s health is the very best it can be.”

Residents are encouraged to take part in the survey before 11:59pm on Tuesday 18 November.
