For the first time in its 800-year history, guests will be able to stay within the grounds of the ancient and stunning Grade I listed home of Lord and Lady Camoys.
Just one hour from West London, Drovers’ Hill at Stonor Park provides two handcrafted and unique Drovers’ Huts, with a 360-degree view of the rolling Chiltern Hills in the distance, charming walks on the doorstep, welcoming country pubs serving heartwarming dishes, and just a stones’ throw from the charming town of Henley-on-Thames.
Opening on 27th June and available to book for minimum two-night stays in the week and three-night stays at the weekend for adults and children over 14, Lord and Lady Camoys are offering visitors a luxurious and tranquil escape within the grounds of their family home, providing a relaxing and quiet retreat in the fresh air of Oxfordshire to enjoy countryside living.
“Stonor Park has passed through generations of our family for 800 years and we thought it was time to offer people the opportunity to experience this beautifully tranquil and peaceful location. Being in these surroundings is instantly soothing and magical, but it still has the easy connections and close proximity to London.
“Both Drovers’ Huts have been designed and built exclusively to sit within the landscape and be in keeping with the setting and each luxurious hut is bespoke, offering couples a countryside retreat in complete luxury,” Lord Camoys said of the new accommodation.
The exteriors have been crafted using sustainably sourced materials. Whilst the interiors highlight the couples’ own love of travelling the world and experiencing remote locations.
The Quercus hut has a rich oak exterior and a light and bright interior with a handcrafted four-poster oak bed as its centrepiece. Adventures in the Giant Redwood forests of Yosemite National Park inspired the Redwood hut, which is made with the deep hued wood from a Giant Redwood felled in Stonor’s ancient parkland.
Both king-sized beds are made up with luxury linen and all accommodation has ensuite bathrooms with crackle-glaze tiled power showers, compact yet well-equipped kitchens with modern appliances including a pull-out dishwasher and a log burner, perfect for an extra cosy atmosphere in the evening.
Luxury amenities include sustainable toiletries from Commune, Nespresso machines with Grind Coffee compostable coffee pods, high-end appliances, and a Dyson hairdryer. Each cabin also has a firepit and grill for guests to barbeque throughout summer, whilst sitting out at dusk to admire the views, spot wildlife and stargaze once the sun has gone down.
Guests are welcomed with a range of local produce including milk, butter, free-range eggs and bread. Available for an extra charge, guests can pre-order award-winning Hundred Hills sparkling wine produced a few miles from the estate, Stonor’s own preserves and honey, locally made cheeses and fresh ready meals created by Stonor’s on-site chef for the ultimate convenience during a busy stay.
If guests prefer not to cook, The Rumble Hut is located close to the main house and is famous for its wood-fired pizzas, created by Italian chef Salvatore. On selected days, guests can enjoy a variety of pizzas to either take away and enjoy at their cabin or tuck into under the giant tipi. There is an abundance of local pubs, cafés and even several Michelin starred restaurants only 20 minutes away.
Lady Camoys added: “Part of our desire to open Drovers’ Hill is to showcase everything this area offers. It’s the epitome of countryside living and is close to some of the home counties’ best towns, including Henley-on-Thames, Marlow and Windsor, with the best that The Chilterns has to offer right out of the Drovers’ Huts doors. Guests can take on country pursuits or enjoy hikes and bike rides on the miles of footpaths and cycle ways that surround the area.
“A drive into Henley-on-Thames takes just ten minutes and the town is brimming with independent shops including clothing boutiques, homeware stores and artisan producers, and there’s even an opportunity for boat trips! There’s everything here to make the most of a long weekend.”
