Historic wholesale markets team wins coveted awards

The City of London Corporation’s Markets Team stepped into the spotlight on 10 October at the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) Awards. This annual event celebrates the best in the industry, recognising outstanding achievements, and this year was particularly special for the City of London Corporation as they clinched three prestigious awards.

The NABMA Awards bring together professionals, market enthusiasts, and visionaries who are passionate about nurturing and sustaining the unique character of British markets.

The City of London’s Markets Director, Ben Milligan was awarded the title of ‘Wholesale Market Manager of the Year’. This award is made to a manager with a long and distinguished operational and strategic career working in markets. Recognised for being at the forefront of delivering the highest standards of food safety and product integrity, Ben’s career has now evolved as he’s become the Programme Director for the Corporation’s iconic Market’s Co-location programme, co-locating Billingsgate Fish Market and Smithfield Meat Market to Dagenham Dock in 2028, with an ambition to move New Spitalfields Fruit and Vegetable Market at a later date.

City of London Corporation’s New Spitalfields team secured the title of ‘Wholesale Market Team of the Year,’ a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment to preserving traditional markets while adapting to industry changes is exemplified by their unparalleled expertise in overseeing London’s bustling wholesale fruit and veg market.

In addition to these impressive awards, staff member Ogun Gortan from the Corporation’s Markets Team received ‘Highly Commended’ accolades for his work on his Diploma for Markets Administration.
