Tesco colleagues have been busy welcoming customers to the retailer’s newest store in Hounslow.
The brand-new Hounslow Express opened its doors for the first time on the afternoon of Friday the 20th of February, with colleagues eager to welcome customers inside for the first time.
Among the features on offer are a wide range of food to go options, a bakery section, Costa Coffee, InPost, and a bakery.
The store will initially have 14 colleagues, 10 of which are newly employed by Tesco.
Store manager, Sameer Barkati, said “I’m very excited, I know the area well and am looking forward to serving the local community best with their needs.
“I am looking forward to building relationships with the local community and making Tesco a great place to shop! I want to be giving everyone an opportunity to grow and better themselves on our team.
“I have been a store manager for 4 years but have worked with Tesco since 2009- this is a special day for me and the team.”
Local schools and registered charities and not-for-profit organisations supporting children and young people are also being invited to apply for up to £1,500 for causes that improve access to healthy, nutritious food.
This could include breakfast or holiday clubs, cooking or gardening initiatives, providing fruit or healthy snacks for a sports club or projects that build life skills, confidence and wellbeing.
The new store is also participating in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food to charities and community groups from every Tesco store at the end of each day.
Since its launch in 2016, the Tesco Community Food Connection Scheme has donated more than 145 million meals to charities across the UK.
This scheme is run in partnership with food redistribution charity FareShare. Each month more than one million meals’ worth of food are donated across the country.
