David Wilson Homes, who is building homes at its The Poppies development in Maidstone, has donated £1,500 as part of its Community Fund initiative to local charity, The Mason Foundation. The unrestricted donation has gone towards the new implementation of Propel, which the charity developed to support young people who are neurodivergent or have learning disabilities to gain valuable vocational experiences.
Established in 2017, The Mason Foundation provides opportunities to support individuals and families from all walks of life, focusing on those who may face additional challenges. The charity’s mission is to remove barriers, celebrate inclusivity, reduce inequalities and provide opportunities to build lasting friendships.
The £1,500 donation comes from The Barratt Foundation, the housebuilder’s charity partnership, which aims to support local charities and groups wherever Barratt Developments PLC operates across the UK.
Rosie Whitehead, Head of Operations and Engagement at The Mason Foundation, comments: “Following the huge impact of the pandemic, there was a shortage of workers for entry-level roles. Through our collaboration with The Oaks Specialist Collegewe launched Propel, which is a programme designed to overcome barriers and support young people with learning disabilities, or who are neurodivergent, working collaboratively with education settings and workplaces to create a network of inclusive Propel mentors, who provide guidance, support and opportunities to young people.
“With David Wilson Kent’s donation this will help us grow the programme across Kent and hopefully we will be able to provide more vocational opportunities for young people, supporting them to thrive.”
Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director at David Wilson Kent, added: “All young people should feel supported, including those with learning disabilities who might need extra support when trying to find work or entering the workplace. It is important nobody is overlooked and shouldn’t be made to feel excluded, so it’s fantastic to see the work that The Mason Foundation is doing to support young people with learning difficulties, providing them with meaningful work experiences that they can benefit from long term. The team is pleased that we were able to support with implementing the Propel programme further throughout the county, and we would encourage anyone who feels as though they might need this support to reach out to the charity.”
David Wilson Homes Kent is currently selling a selection of four- and five-bedroom homes at The Poppies, with prices starting from £605,995. There are a number of incentives available on select homes, including Part Exchange, Move Maker and the Key Worker scheme.
