If you are having guests over at your place or office all the time, then all of them have a common question: “What is your WiFi password?”. Well, most people share the password of their WiFi network easily with their friends but you also have the option of setting up a completely separate guest WiFi network on your connection.

A guest WiFi network will allow visitors to connect to your internet connection and access the internet without getting access to your primary network and the devices connected to the primary network. It serves the same purpose as the main WiFi network i.e. it provides visitors with access to the internet but doesn’t give them access to your primary network.

If you are wondering how you can set up a WiFi network for guests then you have come to the right place. The process is simple and easy and takes only a few minutes. There are actually two methods by which you can set up a WiFi network for guests and we have discussed both of them so that whichever method is available for your router, you can use that method.

Method 1: Use the Router Mobile App

The first and easiest method to create a guest WiFi network on your internet connection is by using the mobile app of your router. Almost every router manufacturer has a default mobile app for their routers that gives you access to the router’s web interface without going into intricacies. If you have the mobile app for your router installed on your phone, then you can use it to set up a guest WiFi network easily.

Although the router app of each manufacturer is different from the others, the basic functionality is the same. Once you open the app, just look for the Guest WiFi option and option. From there, you can enter a network name and password for the guest WiFi network and that’s it. Your new guest WiFi network will be ready to use.

Method 2: Through the Router’s Settings

If your router manufacturer does not have a mobile app or the mobile app does not have the option to set up a guest WiFi network, then worry not. You can still set up a guest WiFi network by heading over to http://192.168.8.1/ or the default IP address to access the settings of the router. Here is how you can do so:

  1. Look for the default IP address of your router at the back of your router or on the underside of your router. You will find a label that will tell you about the default IP address of the router along with login credentials.
  2. Open a web browser, and enter the default IP address and credentials to log in to your router.
  3. Once you are logged in, look for guest WiFi settings under Wireless Settings or Network Settings. These are the places where you will find the option to set up a guest WiFi network.
  4. From there, simply configure your new guest WiFi network by setting an appropriate name and password for the guest WiFi network, and save the settings. Your new guest WiFi network will be now ready for use.

Your friends, family, and guests can connect to the new guest WiFi network in the same way as they would any other WiFi network. By setting up a separate guest WiFi network, you are providing internet access to your guests and separating them from your primary network.
