M&S Store opening Old Street, London

Marks & Spencer has opened the doors to its new Food store on Old Street, Islington.

Hundreds of eager locals, including Islington’s Mayor Councillor Rakhia Ismail, popped down for the opening. The ribbon was cut by Michelle Kwarteng, Section Manager at the store, who has risen through the ranks since she joined M&S through the retailer’s Gingerbread employee initiative.

To help celebrate the opening, colleagues and customers were joined by M&S’s very own Penny Pig to help with the Golden Ticket giveaway. The first 200 customers through the doors received M&S vouchers, up to the value of £200, to enjoy in store.

Key features not to be missed in store include a greengrocer style Fresh Market, featuring seasonal produce, a Bakery and Coffee to Go station – perfect for customers who are looking for a hassle-free breakfast on the move.

Junior Balkissoon, Store Manager for M&S Old Street, said: “The team has been working so hard to get ready for the opening and it’s been brilliant to see the community turn out to support us today. Our shelves are bursting with everything from lunches to go and everyday essentials, through to dinners perfect for sharing with family and friends. We’re excited to be part of the Islington community and we can’t wait to get to know our local customers.”

Customer Jackie Cross, who lives in Islington, said: “I’m so excited about the opening of M&S Old Street. It’s just down the road from where I live and has everything I could need. It will make my weekly shop a lot easier and more convenient!”

Bailey Dickinson, Customer Assistant, added: “The last couple of weeks have been busy getting the store ready for our customers. We’re all so excited to be open and will be working hard to offer the best possible shopping experience for customers – both local residents and businesses.”
