The highly anticipated Ivan Ramen is now open to the public, marking the restaurant’s permanent arrival in the UK following its sell-out London pop-up in 2023. Behind the new hotspot at 98 Farringdon Road is Ivan Orkin, the internationally renowned ramen master and subject of Netflix’s Chef’s Table.
Diners can expect an array of cult classics such as Tonkotsu, Tori Paitan, Spicy Miso Red Chilli, and Ivan’s Karaage. Joining the line-up is a brand-new creation for London: the Salt Beef Bun, inspired by the flavours of a classic East End bagel and filled with warm salt beef, pickled cucumbers, and fiery karashi mustard mayo.
The venue is an intimate 26-seater, with interior branding from Harrison which focuses on the simple clean lines and textures of Japanese design in juxtaposition to the hustle bustle of a New York ramen shop. This is achieved through a minimal interior palette with bright and colourful manga artwork and lightbox artwork.
Throughout, Ivan’s story and journey is embedded in the design: there’s reclaimed furniture and lightning inspired by his original ramen shop in New York, as well as photography narrating the passionate story of Ivan’s dream and respect for the craft and art of ramen. Light box artwork, inspired by Japanese culture, frames the theatrical kitchen at the front of the restaurant, where the customers can experience ramen being made.
Ivan’s iconic ramen bowls have long been celebrated in New York and Tokyo, the two cities most central to his life and experiences. Ivan Ramen’s new home in Farringdon (EC1R) therefore marks an exciting new chapter in his journey as well as a privilege for the UK restaurant scene.
The opening has been made possible in partnership with Sessions, the UK’s leading growth platform for original food brands, and is the first step in ambitious plans to bring the brand to multiple locations across the country.
Ivan Orkin, Founder of Ivan Ramen, said: “Tokyo, New York… and now London! What an incredible honor to share our food in three of the world’s most iconic cities. London isn’t just a world-class restaurant destination. It is home to one of the most exciting ramen scenes anywhere. I’ve always loved this city, and I’m beyond thrilled to finally be a part of it.”
Dan Warne, CEO and Founder of Sessions, said: “”Bringing Ivan Ramen — created by one of the world’s most celebrated ramen chefs — to the UK is a milestone for Sessions. Showcasing Ivan’s globally acclaimed ramen alongside our growing portfolio of original brands reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class food to new audiences.”
