Jack Petchey Foundation recognises young people from Sutton for amazing achievements

82 incredible young people from schools and colleges in Sutton received their prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards presented at a live event at Epsom Playhouse.

The live event celebrated Achievement Award winners aged 11-25 from Sutton for their contributions to their school/college or club. Winners received medallions and framed certificates from the Foundation, along with a £300 grant for them to spend to benefit their school/college or youth group.

In addition, 8 adults were awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people. They each received a medallion and a framed certificate.

The Jack Petchey Foundation has invested over £1m in Sutton since funding started.

Councillor Colin Stears, Mayor of Sutton, who handed out awards on the night, said: “So proud of the achievements of our young people and leaders. The Foundation has started them on their life time journey of achievements and helping others.”

Councillor Gemma Munday, Young People’s Champion, who also handed out awards on the night, said: “These awards mean a lot to the young people who receive them. It was such a pleasure to witness all of the bright, young talent from Sutton. A huge thank you to the staff, volunteers, parents and carers for helping make this happen. I look forward to seeing what a positive difference the young people make and what they achieve!”

Billy Parker, 15, attends Carew Academy.

Billy won the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for being an exceptional young individual whose unwavering commitment to his education and positive attitude towards learning inspire everyone around him. Beyond the classroom, his kindness, sense of humour, and infectious enthusiasm create an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie, making the school community a better place. Billy’s contributions and genuine care for others set a standard all students of Carew Academy aspire to reach.

Billy decided to spend his £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on a class trip to Chessington World of Adventures.

Amiya Kumar, 15, attends Nonsuch High School for Girls.

Amiya won the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for her passion and dedication towards dance. Since she was five, she has taken part in Bharatanatyam and Ballet and performed in various events and competitions. Her dedication extends to volunteering three hours weekly to help younger dancers, where her helpful and thoughtful approach is deeply appreciated. Amiya’s commitment and kindness have made a significant impact on her community, earning her the gratitude of many.

On winning the award, Amiya said: “Thank you to the Jack Petchey Foundation for this award. This has made a big difference in my life!”

Amiya decided to spend her £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on a DSLR camera for the Photography Department, to capture school events, including dance, music concerts and drama productions, as well as help those in photography class and club access high quality equipment.

Ella Bishop, 18, attends St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls.

Ella won the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for her dedication towards performing arts. Since Year 8, she has been instrumental in the success of numerous school productions and concerts as part of the technical crew. Her enthusiasm and ability to inspire young people are remarkable. Additionally, Ella has completed various races, including the London Marathon, raising funds for Samaritans, and volunteers with the Scouts while pursuing a paramedics course and being a carer, showcasing her resilience and commitment to helping others.

Ella decided to spend her £300 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Grant on a theatre trip to watch Hamilton.
