Manga Banga, a new Japanese concept opening early July on Lisson Grove. Taking cues from Izakaya’s, the informal Japanese bars that serves alcoholic drinks and snacks, Manga Banga will bring together delicious Asian small plates, bao, inventive cocktails and, of course, manga – Japanese comics and graphic novels developed in the late 19th century.
Expect a concise menu, designed to be shared, featuring signature dishes including Crispy baby squid with yuzu kosho mayo; Bang cauliflower; Seared salmon sashimi with yuzu-soy and ginger; Spicy tuna tacos with scorched chilli salsa; and Vegetable gyoza. While Japanese at heart, dishes will be centred around the best British produce available, with the menu a celebration of ingredients found on Manga Banga’s doorstep.
Generously crammed bao with a range of filling will also feature. Choose between; Twice cooked pork belly with peanut-soy; Miso-yaki Portobello mushroom with Japanese BBQ sauce; Korean fried chicken; and Sticky wagyu short rib with ginger teriyaki glaze.
The 50-cover restaurant, located just 150 yards from Marylebone Station, is set to become a lively and unique addition to London’s thriving restaurant scene. A feature wall covered with over 100 manga magazine covers, neon signage, and a striking mural coupled with fun interpretations of Japanese dishes will be one not to miss.
