In celebration of the upcoming Sikh New Year festival, Vaisakhi (April 14) the Kensington Metro Bank is appealing for food to be donated in its Kensington High Street store in aid of the Kensington & Chelsea Foodbank – part of the Trussell Trust.
The Trussell Trust supports communities and churches to open foodbanks across the UK. The Kensington & Chelsea foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle local food poverty and hunger.
“As a community bank, Metro Bank is integral to many local fundraising events”, explains Kensington High Street Metro Bank local director, Simon Sheeran. “We are asking our colleagues and customers to support our food drive to help celebrate one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar. This year over 30 of our stores will be supporting local foodbanks.
“We are particularly keen to collect what the foodbank currently needs as they are appealing for specific items including coffee, hot chocolate, long life UHT milk, long life fruit juice, baked beans, tinned meat, fish or fruit, as well as rice pudding, custard, cooking oil, halal food items, dried rice, instant noodles, honey, jam, peanut butter and chocolate spread.”
The need for local foodbanks has never been greater with more than 14 million people in the UK living in poverty – including nearly 5 million children.
Kensington Metro Bank located at 160-166 Kensington High Street. The store is open for every day for donations from Monday to Saturday: 8.30am to 6pm, Sunday: 11am to 5pm.
