Through this collaboration, the care home is committing to raising £2,500 this year, to fund a dedicated Dementia Research Nurse, helping to advance crucial research into dementia diagnosis, and treatment.
Together with nine other care homes operated by provider Signature Senior Lifestyle, across Greater London and the Southeast, the aim is to collectively raise £25,000.
With almost one million people in the UK living with dementia, research into early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment has never been more vital. BRACE, which has been funding pioneering dementia research for over 30 years, supports projects across leading institutions in England and Wales.
This new partnership marks the first time BRACE has collaborated with care homes, highlighting the shared commitment of both organisations to improving the quality of life for people living with dementia and support for research, care and awareness.
Sonya Fenwick, Home Manager at Signature at Coombe Hill Manor, commented:
“We are proud to be partnering with BRACE to champion their incredible mission, and doing our bit in helping to further educate and support members of the Kingston community that are affected by it.
“Dementia is a condition close to the heart of so many of our residents, their families, and our team members, so we recognise the urgent need for more research.”
The £2,500 raised by Signature at Coombe Hill Manor will go towards funding a Dementia Research Nurse, who will play a critical role in supporting ongoing studies at the Bristol Brain Centre.
BRACE’s work focuses on education, earlier diagnosis, new treatments, and ultimately, finding a cure for dementia.
Throughout the year, the care home will host exciting fundraising activities, ranging from bake sales and charity events to educational talks and dementia cafés, designed to engage residents, families, and local communities.
A key element of the partnership will be an educational initiative, with the BRACE team leading information sessions at Signature at Coombe Hill Manor to increase understanding of dementia, its symptoms, and ways to reduce risk.
In 2024, Signature at Coombe Hill Manor demonstrated its support of the local community, helping to fund facilities at Kingston Hospital, and supporting charities such as Centrepoint, which campaigns to end youth homelessness.
This partnership with BRACE is a continuation of the home’s dedication to working with charities and other vital organisations to drive positive change in the health and social care sector and make a meaningful impact on society.
