SIR Jake Berry has claimed that Labour MPs have said they are looking to remove Sir Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves in January.
Speaking on GB News, he said: “I personally think he’s in big trouble. I went and had a coffee with an old friend of mine in Parliament today. While I was there, I spoke to half a dozen Labour MPs. They are now talking about getting rid of Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves in January.
“This, I think, has been the straw that’s broke the proverbial camel’s back.
“When ministers and cabinet ministers are being sent out on the media feeling that they are being misled, and then opening the newspapers or tuning into the same channel a few hours later, and they just look like fools because they’ve been told something wrong by the Prime Minister and the Chancellor, and they’ve been sent out there to sort of push the lie out, they get really, really angry. It’s sort of not forgivable.
“I’d go one step further. If Rachel Reeves, at that slightly bizarre press conference she gave in Downing Street on 4th November, had made those statements in the House of Commons, knowing that the OBR had started telling her in August that she had this £4.2 billion fiscal headroom, then by her own measure, she should be kicked out of Parliament.
“They had Boris Johnson kicked out of Parliament for misleading the House of Commons. If she’d have made those statements that she made in a press conference in Parliament, there would now be a parliamentary investigation into her.
“I would have much more respect for Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves if they’d have come out before this budget and said, Look, there’s a bit of headroom. There’s not enough.
“That’s not what they said. They said there was a massive black hole, which was a lie.
“But I’d also have more respect if they’d come out and said, ‘look, we’re a Labour government. We’re elected with a big majority, and what we’re going to do is massively increase benefits for people, because that’s what we want to do’.
“Because there’s an honesty in that. What they’ve done is they’ve pretended that there’s this black hole. They’ve not even pretended, they’ve actually just flat out lied to the British public about it, and then said, right, that’s why we’re going to whack up taxes.
“The real reason they’re whacking up taxes, the black hole has been created by giving people who don’t work more benefits. That’s a straight choice. I’d never vote for that. I don’t support that, but their supporters might.”
