Over the past three decades, the grant-giving Charity has supported children and young people by awarding grants to hundreds of grassroots charities and organisations within North and West London. The Charity’s mission is to transform the lives of children and young people by championing, protecting and providing funding to create opportunities and broaden horizons that many young people potentially do not have access to. In thirty years, John Lyon’s Charity has awarded just shy of £200 million to more than 1,800 organisations.
JLC has focused on funding projects that support all children and young people. These projects range from supporting disabled young people, children and families, young people with emotional and mental health needs, youth issues and many more. As well as awarding multiple grassroots charities and organisations the opportunity to deliver within the CYP sector, JLC has also contributed emergency funding to many crucial events since its inception in 1991. This includes the Grenfell Tower tragedy in North Kensington in 2016, where JLC supported other Funders across London to respond collaboratively to the emergency as quickly and effectively as possible, ensuring funding went to where it really needed to go; and during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020-21 when the Charity ring-fenced £1 million in emergency funding to help protect the CYP sector in its Beneficial Area.
Dr. Lynne Guyton, CEO of John Lyon’s Charity said: “Over the last thirty years our mission has been to walk beside our grantees. We have always offered our support, expertise and trust to all the groups we Fund. Even during the pandemic, we still walked beside our grantees, albeit virtually, because we knew during a time of crisis, they would need us more than ever. We are incredibly proud of the way our groups have grown and adapted their services to continue to deliver to young people from all walks of life over the years.”
Many grassroots charities supported by JLC wouldn’t be in the position they are in today without the Charity’s funding and support.
“John Lyon’s Charity has been part of icandance’s ecosystem for years. We are true partners in this entire process. What’s really important for me is having a Funder who is walking the journey with icandance as we evolve, change and shape our community.” – Juliet Diener, Founder of icandance
“JLC provided an amazing opportunity to support students’ mental health and physical wellbeing from five SEN schools in the charity’s boroughs. It allowed the team to be more strategic in their delivery, creating a holistic Schools in Partnership programme where the outcome enabled and promoted citizenship and better health outcomes across the SEN community.” – Richard Fetherston, Founder of Snowibility
Thanks to JLC’s support, our patients have accessed a safe space for quality therapy to work through their challenges and find a way to move forward. For this, we are tremendously grateful for working together.” – Dr Maxim de Sauma, Brent Centre for Young People Chief Executive Officer and Clinical Director
