Lidl is set to open three stores across the capital on Thursday 12th December, just in time for Londoners to grab their Lidl festive favourites. Two new stores will open in Forest Gate and Caterham, whilst its site in Dagenham will reopen following a full refurbishment and extension.

Forest Gate: The new 731m² store on Woodgrange Road will open 7am–10pm (Mon–Sat) and 11am–5pm (Sun), offering access to Lidl’s bakery and high-quality, affordable products. Its convenient location is well-served by public transport.

Caterham: Spanning 1,154m², the new store on Croydon Road will operate 7am–10pm (Mon–Sat) and 10am–4pm (Sun), featuring the discounter’s bakery, Middle of Lidl, and ample parking. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Hillcroft Primary School pupils will mark the opening.

Dagenham: The newly expanded 1,261m² store on Heathway will offer a larger shopping space, having increased in size by a third. Still open 8am–10pm (Mon–Sat) and 10am–4pm (Sun), the store is now home to Lidl’s famous bakery and has 62 parking spaces, including EV charging. Its launch will include a ribbon-cutting event with Parsloes Primary School.

These follow the opening of its brand-new Hoxton store in the heart of East London earlier this month. Collectively, these openings are bringing over a hundred new jobs to the capital, where Lidl was last year named the third largest supermarket.

Outside of London, Lidl’s national expansion is full steam ahead, with four new stores opening today in Shinfield, Bovey Tracey, Downham Market, and Stirchley. Alongside these, a new store in Connah’s Quay has replaced the old Lidl in the town, whilst its site in Chessington has reopened following a full refurbishment and extension.

As stores open across the country, Lidl has reported a surge in early demand for Christmas products. Sales of Deluxe British Pigs in Blankets are up by over 100% already, whilst over 5 million Favorina Mince Pies have already been sold so far this year1.

Olu Johnson, Regional Property Director at Lidl GB, said: “Opening three stores in a single day in London is a true reflection of the remarkable progress we’re making in the capital as we celebrate our 30th anniversary in Great Britain. Becoming the third-largest supermarket in the city last year was a significant milestone, and we’re committed to building on that success by making our high-quality products at affordable prices accessible to even more Londoners. As demand continues to grow, we’re proud to help households stretch their budgets without compromising on quality—especially as we approach the festive season. We look forward to welcoming both loyal and new shoppers through our doors in the lead-up to the big day.”

Lidl’s growth is driven by strong performance, having been named the UK’s fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket consistently for over a year. Earlier this month, Lidl revealed that thanks to significant investments into infrastructure and upgrading stores, which have contributed to improved product freshness and an enhanced store experience, it secured 326,000 additional shoppers in the last financial year, more than any other supermarket2. During the same period, customers made 35 million more trips to Lidl, switching half a billion pounds of spend to the discounter – the highest growth in the UK grocery sector2
