TWO local opticians across Croydon recently supported a special event at Croydon Vision to raise awareness of glaucoma and the importance of regular eye tests in detecting the disease.
Specsavers Croydon North End and Croydon Church Street partnered with Glaucoma UK to spread the message about glaucoma detection, risk factors and the vital role regular sight tests play in preserving eye health.
Attendees took part in Q&A sessions with Specsavers optometrist Clarke Longwell, who has been working at the Croydon stores for 28 years. Joined by a representative from the leading glaucoma charity, they provided practical, tailored, expert advice.
Clarke Longwell says: ‘We’re proud to support Croydon Vision and Glaucoma UK in this important initiative.
‘We wanted to stress the importance of regular eye tests in detecting glaucoma and other eye conditions. There are often no warning signs until the disease reaches an advanced stage, by which time visual loss may have occurred. While treatment can prevent further deterioration, any damage already done cannot be reversed.
‘Events like this allow us to share vital information with the community and make sure they’re aware of the risk factors and can get the right care.’
As well as eye examinations and glaucoma screening, the specialist teams at Specsavers Croydon North End and Croydon Church Street offer a wide range of eye care services, including contact lens fitting and general advice on maintaining healthy vision. They are committed to supporting local charities and improving awareness of eye health in the community.
