Walthamstow-based Rice n Spice is the latest food vendor to join CRATE. The local company, which offers flamed chicken tikka over rice and grilled Seekh kebabs as loaded wraps and rice boxes alongside samosas, homemade Pakistani tea and indulgent desserts, launched on Saturday 25 October.
Owners, Mohammed Shazad Khan, Subhan Khan, and Hamza Ahmed established Rice n Spice earlier this year at Walthamstow Sunday Market but were keen to expand their offering.
“CRATE felt like the perfect opportunity to bring our flavours to the community seven days a week. We wanted to create a space where people could enjoy high-quality, freshly cooked food at reasonable prices, all while keeping that authentic, family-run feel that defines us,” said Mohammed.
Rice n Spice’s offering is based on the concept of flamed chicken tikka over rice and grilled Seekh Kebabs, which are available as loaded wraps (with chips) or rice boxes (the most popular option). Each box includes complimentary homemade chickpea curry, a selection of mint, chilli, and garlic sauces, and fresh salad, all made in-house. The team also serves chicken samosas (a classic Pakistani/South Asian street snack), along with homemade, creamy Doodh Patti Chai (Pakistani tea) and indulgent tiramisu desserts in Oreo and chocolate chip flavour. According to Hamza: “Desserts like you’ve never tasted before.”
The trio has already built a strong and loyal customer base through its social media platforms and regulars from Walthamstow Market.
“We grew up in Walthamstow and know the community really well,” commented Subhan. “It’s a vibrant area with amazing energy, and we wanted to give something back by sharing the food we love with the people we’ve grown up around.”
“We’re excited to grow our business, meet new customers, and bring more footfall to CRATE with our food and friendly atmosphere,” adds Hamza. “Rice N Spice is a family-oriented business, born from a shared passion for food. Everything we do comes from that love for good flavour, good value, and good vibes.”
Rice n Spice launched in style, offering customers a 40% discount on all meals purchased between 12-3pm on its opening day.
Commenting on CRATE’s newest arrival, 17 & Central’s Centre Manager, Gavin Cockayne, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Rice n Spice to CRATE, enhancing our street food options with wraps, rice boxes, flame-grilled chicken tikka and divine desserts.
“As a local business Rice n Spice truly understands the needs of our guests. We can’t wait for them to start trading with their delicious menu. It’s an exciting addition to the CRATE family, blending local flavour with guest-focused innovation.”
