London City Airport has donated a further £39,000 to local charities and not-for-profit organisations through its annual Community Fund.

The airport has awarded funding to 13 charities and not-for-profit organisations covering six east London boroughs including Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. Each successful applicant will receive a grant of up to £3,000 to build stronger, safer and healthier communities, and raise the aspirations of east Londoners.

Local groups that have secured funding include Homerton Hope, the charity arm of Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which raises funds to enhance hospital services and patient experience, and Renew UK, which supports those facing infertility, pregnancy loss and stillbirth, and past abuse victims by providing psychotherapy, advocacy, wellbeing and nutrition advice and other key services.

In addition, the Community Fund is supporting Deafroots, which helps Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals from diverse communities to access education, employment and inclusion; Tower Hamlets Friends & Neighbours, which provides befriending and advocacy services to older residents; Outrunners Youth, which provides running and exercise sessions for young people in Hackney; and Wood Street Walls CIC, which runs health and wellbeing programme including football sessions and art and design workshops for girls aged 7-11.

Since launching the fund in May 2019, the Community Fund has awarded over £550,000 to 180+ charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Michael Spiers, Chief People Officer, London City Airport, said: “Since London City Airport was founded in 1987, we have been deeply rooted in East London. We’re incredibly proud that our Community Fund continues to make a real difference across our local communities, and the charities and organisations we’re supporting this year are doing important work to strengthen these communities, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for local people.”

Tyler Williams-Green, CEO and Founder of The Outrunners, said: “We believe that every young person in East London should have access to the transformative power of running and movement. The incredible generosity of the London City Airport Community Fund is making this possible by funding essential after-school provision for young people in Newham. This support will provide those from minoritised backgrounds with access to fun and confidence-boosting exercise sessions, a warm and welcoming Youth Hub, and youth workers they can both joke around with and confide in – giving more local young people the chance to move, grow and shine.”
