Three London schools-led partnerships are highlighted in a new national report for their work to support local schools, enabling them to give the capital’s children an excellent educational experience.
Camden Learning, Haringey Education Partnership (HEP) and Tower Hamlets Education Partnership (THEP) are among the partnerships quoted in the Area-Based Education Partnerships Association (AEPA) report: Belonging and Excellence: The Importance of Local Education Partnerships.
The landmark report shows how local, school-led collaborations are driving improvement and building belonging across England’s education system.
The report brings together examples from partnerships across England which demonstrate how schools are tackling shared challenges, from inclusion and SEND to recruitment and wellbeing, through locally rooted collaboration.
Camden Learning, HEP and THEP are praised in the AEPA report for their collaboration and partnership with London schools, helping to improve outcomes for children and young people.
Camden Learning is highlighted for its education to 2030 strategy, Building Back Stronger, which sets out “ambitious goals” for creating an excellent school experience, such as:
a scheme to make sure every child is reading by age seven
guidance for schools and parents on primary to secondary transition
and a comprehensive post-16 prospectus that incorporates what all Camden secondary schools and post-16 providers offer.
HEP is showcased for its development of primary school lessons that are “both highly ambitious and highly inclusive for all”. The report highlights its Opening Worlds Key Stage 2 humanities curriculum, which is:
built on careful vocabulary development, academic rigour and carefully sequenced materials
has been taken up by over 250 schools nationally and is growing rapidly
has been the single biggest contributor to the improvement in reading and writing in Haringey, with attainment far above pre-Covid levels.
THEP is praised for its “rich leadership offer in Tower Hamlets”, specifically its New Headteacher Support Programme which focuses on building high-performing teams, decision-making under pressure and agile thinking, offering:
mentoring and coaching
peer review
a senior leader internship programme
and executive coaching for all headteachers.
Stephen Hall, CEO of Camden Learning, said: “We are very proud of our innovative education strategy, Building Back Stronger, which emphasises the importance of a fair start for every child, ensuring that no one is left behind.
“The strategy has secured continued widespread commitment and has resulted in an approach that is widely owned by Camden’s schools and the council.”
