With loneliness now recognised as one of the UK’s most widespread social challenges, West London resident Kelyn Sprit was able to enjoy a rare and meaningful evening out after Caremark (home care providers) selected her for its national Care for a Wish initiative.
Launched to mark Caremark’s 20th anniversary, the Care for a Wish initiative is granting wishes to just 20 people across the UK to create meaningful moments for those receiving care.
Kelyn, who receives support from Caremark Hounslow, shared that she frequently feels isolated and longed for the chance to enjoy a simple evening out. On 11 December, Caremark made that happen, arranging for her to see Sleeping Beauty at The London Palladium followed by dinner at Italian restaurant Villa Di Geggiano in Chiswick. She was accompanied on her evening out by Mavis Jean, Care Assistant at Caremark Hounslow, and Sally Rayner, Caremark Field Care Supervisor.
Commenting on having her wish granted, Kelyn said, “I really enjoyed the show, especially the costumes. The whole day has been so enjoyable. I couldn’t do this without the staff at Caremark so I’m thankful for everyone who helps me.”
According to David Glover, CEO of Caremark, the Care for a Wish campaign isn’t simply a celebration of 20 years; it is also a reminder of what Caremark does to support people’s wellbeing, dignity and joy through a commitment to enhancing their quality of life, alongside meeting their care needs.
David said, “It’s incredibly humbling to be able to grant these wishes for the people we care for. Every single entry we received was meaningful, and the ones we’ve been able to fulfil have been especially poignant. These wishes are all about the opportunity for our customers to have moments of joy and connection and create new memories that will be cherished. Making experiences happen for our wonderful customers like Kelyn is a complete privilege.”
