London Transport Museum is ‘Going Underground’ for its March Museum Late

0

London Transport Museum is ‘Going Underground’ this March, with an after-hours event full of interactive engineering activities, virtual reality experiences and a live
science demo from the Royal Institution. There will also be a choir performance by the Pink Singers, exploring LGBTQ+ histories of the Underground.

During an evening jam packed with fun activities, guests will be able to channel their inner engineer to make and race a balloon-powered vehicle, use snap
circuits to explore how Tube stations are powered and test their problem-solving skills with bridge building challenges. There will
also be expert talks, choir performances and a pop-up bar serving mixologist grade cocktails.

Highlights of this interactive evening include:

Make and race balloon powered vehicles

Tap into your creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to design and race a balloon-powered vehicle. With a variety of materials to choose from, get hands-on
with the trial-and-error process that drives engineering breakthroughs.

Coding the capital

Code for the capital city with toy train sets! Play with the electronic Intelino trains to explore how coding can be used in automated transport and engineering, then
figure out how to code the train set to find real life transport solutions.

Full STEAM ahead: engineering games

Practice your STEAM skills (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) with mini activities. Light up London with snap circuits, construct a sturdy bridge with blocks, and tackle algorithmic puzzles that reveal the engineering
principles keeping London’s transport systems moving.

VR experience: VIRTU-RAIL and RailVR demonstrations

Join Transport for London’s Systems Performance Team to immerse yourself in the virtual world of London Underground.

‘Drive’ historic trains and buses

Fancy playing train driver? Hop into the driver’s seat of the Elizabeth line train simulator – and don’t miss this chance to climb on board some of the historical vehicles
on display.

The Pink Singers choir

Catch a choir performance and discover how LGBTQ+ histories were uncovered during the building of a Tube line. Created by The Pink Singers and in collaboration with former
artist-in-residence for the new Northern Line Extension, Nina Wakeford, this mini performance will imagine a ‘pinker’ history of Tube tunnels, involving histories of LGBTQ+ transport workers.

National Railway Museum’s People, Pride and Progress pop-up stall

Learn all about
People,
Pride and Progress,
a project recording the stories of LGBTQ+ rail workers led by the National Railway Museum. Know somebody who would be interested? Then stop by for a chat.

The Thirst Trap pop-up bar

Say cheers to a great evening, with a tipple from
The
Thirst Trap, who will be serving mixologist grade cocktails on tap alongside a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

The ‘Going Underground’ Museum Late starts at 18:30 and finishes at 22:00. Over 18s only. Tickets cost £18.50. Concessions are available. Book online via London Transport
