The council’s ever popular jobs and skills fair is back on 6 November. Held at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, the fair is a great opportunity for job seekers to network with employers and apply for local vacancies, apprenticeships, and training. Over 900 people went last year, and the council is expecting this event to be as well attended.
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Skills and Greenwich Supports said: “Our mission is that everyone has the opportunity to secure a good job. Our Jobs and Skills Fair is a fantastic one-stop shop for people looking for work. You can meet prospective employers from a range of sectors, find out more about apprenticeships and training opportunities, and get advice on the support available. Thank you to all of our partners for making this event possible.”
Those attending will have more than 40 organisations to talk to across a range of sectors including transport, hospitality, healthcare, construction, customer service, digital and more. They also have the chance to speak with skills providers offering training and apprenticeships, including the council’s Greenwich Learn partners – Community Systems, Flowers Skills, GCDA, Global Solution Services, London South East Colleges, The Training Place of Excellence, UCRA and Unity Works – as well as the University of Greenwich.
Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLaB) will be on hand to offer advice about the support available to job seekers, including programmes such as Restart, Trailblazer and Connect to Work. The Restart scheme helps people who have been out of work for nine months or more by providing skills training, confidence building, CV help, and job matching. The Trailblazer initiative helps secure paid work experience placements primarily for people not in education or training, care leavers and carers. The Connect to Work programme offers up to 12 months of tailored vocational support for people who have disabilities, long-term health issues or other personal circumstances that can make it challenging to find work.
The fair is only open to Royal Greenwich residents. It is advisable to book in advance as there is limited space for people to turn up on the day. Tickets can be booked online. For enquiries, email or call 0208 921 2440.
The Jobs and Skills Fair is organised by the council in partnership with Job Centre Plus. It is also supported by Mayor of London, Local London, Knight Dragon, Berkeley and Durkan.
