The team at the iconic Punch Bowl pub in Mayfair – part of the Butcombe Pubs & Inns family – is celebrating after scooping a coveted Class Winner title at this year’s British Pie Awards, held on Friday 7 March.

Often described as “the Olympics of the pie world”, the British Pie Awards honour the very best pie‑makers across the UK, from artisan independents to large‑scale producers. Judged by chefs, food critics, industry experts and passionate pie enthusiasts, the awards take place annually in Melton Mowbray, the spiritual home of the pork pie.

The Punch Bowl’s winning entry – its indulgent Fish Pie – impressed judges with its rich, chef‑secret sauce and luxurious blend of fish, prawns and mussels. While the dish is traditionally topped with buttery mashed potato on the pub’s menu, the team opted for a full pastry finish for the competition, crowned with a triumphant king prawn for good measure.

Ricart Owen Deomampo, Head Chef at The Punch Bowl, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to take home a Class Winner award this year. Our Fish Pie is a real labour of love for the kitchen team, and to see it recognised on a national stage alongside such stiff competition is incredibly rewarding. The British Pie Awards are such a celebration of craft and quality, so this win means a great deal to all of us.”
