Signature at Hendon Hall, a care home offering luxury assisted living, nursing, respite and dementia services, recently hosted two special celebrations marking the 100th birthdays of beloved residents Alex Klein and Eileen Corker.
The events were heart-warming tributes to the lives of these centenarians, with appearances by the Mayor of Barnet, family members, and pupils from local schools.
The Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Tony Vourou, attended the event, giving a touching speech honouring Alex’ and Eileen’s life and presenting them with a special commemorative gift on behalf of the community. A traditional birthday tea followed, featuring a grand cake cutting ceremony.
The Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Tony Vourou, commented:
“It’s an honour to be part of such important milestones in our community. Both Alex and Eileen have led extraordinary lives, and it is wonderful to see the younger generation joining in to celebrate their achievements. These events remind us how meaningful it is to cherish our elders and acknowledge their contributions.”
Although students from Orion Primary School and Hasmonean Boys School were unable to attend in person, they made a special visit earlier in the week to present 100 handmade birthday cards to Alex and Eileen. The two were overjoyed as they sifted through the colourful creations, filled with heartfelt messages from the young pupils.
Alex Klein, who enjoyed the cards from Orion Primary School, said:
“The cards from the children were absolutely wonderful. It means the world to me to be remembered and celebrated in this way. I am so grateful to everyone who helped make this birthday so special.”
In addition to the individual cards, the Jewish boys’ school presented a large, personalised card for Eileen.
Eileen Corker shared her thoughts on reaching such an incredible milestone:
“I feel very blessed to have reached 100. I’ve seen so much in my life, but nothing compares to the love and kindness I’ve felt today from my family, the care home, and the children who’ve gone out of their way to make this day special.”
Eileen and Alex, surrounded by loved ones, shared a few words about their long and fulfilling life, as the room sang in celebration and applauded their achievements.
The event highlighted the strong bonds between Signature at Hendon Hall and the local community. Reflecting on the special relationships that have been built, the home plans further engagement with local schools.
