A mum from the London Borough of Merton has won the top prize on The National Lottery’s £100,000 Gold scratchcard, after picking it up on a whim while shopping on Saturday 3rd January 2026.

Speaking on her win, she said: “I just popped out to buy some shopping and thought I would try my luck and buy a scratchcard. I cried with shock and joy when I realised I had won… I really couldn’t believe it!

“My kids ran over and gave me a hug. I’m going to treat the family with the winnings, and put some aside for a rainy day.”

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, congratulated the Merton-based prize winners, saying, “Our lucky Londoner must be glad she decided to pick up a scratchcard while out shopping! We hope she enjoys treating her family with the prize.”

Players can buy and check their tickets online by downloading the National Lottery app or at national-lottery.co.uk. They can also buy and check tickets in retail.
