Met Police engaged in a ‘institutional cover-up’ over VIP sex abuse probe, says Harvey Proctor

FORMER MP Harvey Proctor has accused the Metropolitan Police of an “institutional cover-up” over the disastrous Operation Midland enquiry into supposed historic sex crimes by VIPs.

Mr Proctor, a former Conservative MP, was raided by police over false sex abuse allegations made by a fantasist but was told in 2016 that no further action would be taken against him.

He was commenting on the news that the head of Operation Midland, Steve Rodhouse, has been charged with gross misconduct for allegedly lying to the public.

Mr Proctor told GB News: “I’m pleased about that. But first of all, I should say, innocent until proven guilty, which is a courtesy that the police did not give me.

“I believe the Metropolitan Police force have engaged in an institutional cover-up to stop the errors, particularly by senior officers in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
“Remember, nobody in the police, nobody, and if I may say so in the House of Commons, has tried to get senior police officers from the Met held responsible for these matters.”

In a discussion with Jacob Rees-Mogg, he continued: “Can I say I am not wanting this for any reason of revenge. The reason why I want this is to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“And if police officers think that senior police officers throughout the country however long ago, whatever they’ve done, can get away with it, then that will not help people in the future falling into the same position that I fell into.”

He added: “So, that’s what I’m doing. It’s about justice for people in the future. For me, that has gone by and I want to make sure that no other person goes through the horrors that I had to endure.”
