Military charity Blind Veterans UK will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special event at Manchester Piccadilly Station on Thursday 8 May.
In order to celebrate this historic event, the charity have invited the Military Wives Choir to sing to the public who are passing through the station. The choir’s performances will be taking place at 13:40, 14:30, and 15:20.
There will be a number of blind veterans in attendance, including blind artist, Bryan Naylor, who will be painting live to show the skills and adaptations required to paint with sight loss, and giving away his creations to members of the public.
The event will culminate with a ceremony at 15:00, with speeches by Blind Veterans UK chairman Barry Coupe, blind veteran Simon Brown, who lost his sight when shot by a sniper in Iraq, and Manchester Piccadilly Station Manager Toby.
The occasion forms part of the charity’s ‘After the Darkness’ VE Day 80 campaign, which seeks to not only shine a light on their veterans’ brave service, but also raise funds and bring awareness to the challenges faced by veterans living with sight loss.
Blind Veterans UK supports thousands of blind veterans across the country, but knows there are many thousands more who still need its support to rebuild their lives after sight loss.
