Families in need will benefit from vital support from Bounds Green Food Bank this Christmas, thanks to a generous donation from a Wood Green opticians.
For the fifth-year running, the Specsavers store in Wood Green, which is locally owned and run, collected donations from the team and customers throughout the start of December.
Since 1 December, the store has collected 44 crates of food items worth £1,400 for the food bank, delivering its donation on 16 December – taking the total to more than £4,000 worth since 2020.
Heena Vadgama, lead optometrist at Wood Green Specsavers, says: ‘We are very proud to be supporting Bounds Green Food Bank for a fifth year. Thanks to the remarkable generosity of our community, we are delighted to have once again surpassed the previous year’s donation total, bringing the value of donations over the past five years to £4,400 worth of food.
‘We believe in supporting our community in any way we can, especially during these challenging times and are incredibly grateful to our colleagues and customers in Wood Green who have donated food items to our food bank collections over the years.’
Bounds Green Food Bank currently serve over 4,600 neighbours across the community.
Grace Plastiras-Phillips, Communications Lead, at Bounds Green Food Bank says: ‘We’re once again so thankful to Specsavers Wood Green for organising yet another fantastic collection and are overwhelmed by the kindness and charity of the Wood Green community. We’re currently at risk of closing down, with only six months’ worth of funds left unless we can dramatically increase donations. Your generosity has come at such a vital moment, as we fight stay open and provide essential support to over 500 families for as long as possible. Initiatives like this are pivotal in ensuring we can continue to support the neighbours who rely on us each week, and we can’t thank you enough.’
