The charity Music in Hospitals & Care has received £6,000 from the London Freemasons to share live music in health and care spaces across London.

Music in Hospitals & Care improves the health and wellbeing of children and adults through the healing power of live music. The charity has received the £6,000 grant from the London Freemasons to support 22 hours of music in health and care spaces across London. This funding will help to share live music with people living with dementia, mental health problems and serious illness.
Over the next 12 months, the grant will help Music in Hospitals & Care to reach over 300 people across a variety of healthcare settings. The live music will be delivered by professional musicians, offering personalised and uplifting musical experiences to those who might not otherwise have access to it. Locations include:
Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Safari Children’s Ward)
Charing Cross Hospital (Intensive Care Unit)
Newham Centre for Mental Health
St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington (Neonatal Unit)
University Hospital Lewisham (Older people’s mental health ward)
St David’s Nursing Home

Music in Hospitals & Care has received two previous grants from the London Freemasons in 2018 and 2023. They have helped fund live music in a wide range of care environments, including the post-natal ward at University College Hospital, St David’s Nursing Home in Ealing and the trauma and orthopaedic ward at King’s College Hospital. The 2023 grant supported 15 hours of live music across London, offering moments of connection and joy to patients, staff, and their families.
Speaking about the new grant, Barbara Osborne, Chief Executive of Music in Hospitals & Care, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to The London Freemasons for their continued support. This funding will allow us to share live music with even more people across London, particularly those facing significant health challenges. Music has a unique ability to uplift, connect, and bring comfort, and this grant will help us reach hundreds of individuals who can benefit from the positive effects of live music. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with The London Freemasons, whose support has made a meaningful difference to our work over the years.”
Paul King from London Freemasons, said:

“Music in Hospitals & Care do a great job bringing moments of lightness for people in challenging situations and their families, friends and carers. We’ve supported them for some years and hugely respect the work they do across London.”
