20 years of Mytime Active
Jason Stanton, CEO at Mytime Active, says: “Everything we do at Mytime Active is about the local communities we serve and designed to have a positive impact on their wellbeing. Since April 2023 we’ve been measuring the wellbeing factor of our customers compared to the average of people in the area and it’s already eight per cent higher; I’m exceptionally proud of that.

“We are more than just a gym. I don’t care if people workout, play dominoes, take their children for a swim or have a coffee and read a book – our leisure centres are a community hub; we’re here for everyone. We can’t wait to welcome people to The Spa at Beckenham on 24th February to experience everything we have to offer for free and raise a glass to 20 years of Mytime Active.”

Mytime Active started back in 2004, when it first took over running the council’s leisure services and was known as Bromley Mytime. Today, it operates using the same tried and tested charity model, investing back into the local community. It offers programmes for all members of society, from MyClub for adults and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to health programmes like Fresh Start Friendly and Heart Smart.

Mytime Active’s Partnership Manager, Debra Weekes, who has been with the leisure trust since its inception, adds: “During the last 14 years we’ve secured £3.45m of grant funding towards our health programmes. We do a lot of community outreach, including our award-winning ArtsTrain creative music programme for children and young people with challenging backgrounds. Our Community Investment Fund supports local charities and sports clubs with small grants up to £1,000. Since launching in 2006 we’ve distributed more than £130,000 to 150 organisations.

“My passion is our Primetime programme for the over 60s. In 2007 we had just 79 members, despite Bromley having an ageing population. Now Primetime has more than 3,000 members.”
