The Natural History Museum is inviting guests to connect with nature this summer in its reimagined five-acre gardens.
From Thursday July 18, the transformed gardens will open. Big and small explorers can visit the accessible green space to journey through 2.7 billion years of the planet told through plants, geology, and representations of reptiles, birds and mammals, as well as learning about the wildlife found on our doorstep today.
Those looking for an extra special visit to the new wildlife haven can buy tickets to take part in specially curated events from tours and sketching workshops, to an evening of after-hours exploration before heading into Hintze Hall for a dinosaur disco
Visitors who don’t want to miss a single detail in the new gardens can join the immersive Garden Tour: Journey Through Time and Nature. Step into a world where nature, past and present, intertwines. Led by one of the Museum’s expert guides guests will trace the footsteps of the past and discover how everyone can make space for nature in our ever-changed world.
For those wanting to try their hand at a Wild life drawing workshop, the Museum will be hosting two exclusive artwork classes led by sketching experts in the gardens on 26 July and 30 August. During the three-hour workshop participants – both beginners and seasoned artists – will immerse themselves studying the Jurassic botanicals and urban wildlife to capture the magic of the Museum’s garden and the variety of flora that thrives in them.
For an extra special late-night visit to the Museum, over 18s can visit the newly transformed gardens after it has closed to the public for the day, as part of the Gardens Evening View and Silent Disco event on 25 July. Guests will take a journey through the gardens and explore the story of how life on Earth has changed over time, from the days of the dinosaurs through to today while enjoying live music and meeting expert scientists. Afterwards, guests can dance their way over to the iconic Hintze Hall where, under the watchful eye of Hope the famed 25-metre blue whale skeleton, they will disco with dinosaurs. Partygoers will be kitted out with wireless headsets in Hintze Hall as they join three battling DJ’s who simultaneously play club classics and hot new tracks, curating a soundtrack to the night.
The Museum’s new gardens has something for everyone with free activities to get involved with too throughout the summer. Big and small explorers alike can get hands on with nature this summer at no extra cost, from pond dipping to garden trails.
An Audio Guide will also bring the stories of the gardens to life, featuring interviews with our Museum scientists and poetry co-produced with blind and partially sighted young people.
With lots of fun to be had, the special garden events special events are the ultimate addition to a day out at the Natural History Museum – with all proceeds supporting the Museum’s work to protect the planet.
