New Crimestoppers campaign launches to unite Camden and help build community safety

Crimestoppers is launching a dedicated campaign asking people who live and work in Camden to speak up anonymously and help reduce crime.

The new initiative aims to encourage people to speak up about crime in their local area, including incidents of organised crime, gang-related violence, weapon incidents, youth violence, drug dealing, and robbery.

With a particular focus on Somers Town and its neighbourhoods, Crimestoppers is encouraging people to help reduce crime without the fear of retaliation or ever being identified.

Crimestoppers is engaging with residents, encouraging them to provide new information about crime in the local area. The charity will carry out targeted social media activity and leaflet drops, reach young people through its youth service Fearless, and attend community events to increase reporting and give the community a powerful voice.

Local community partners, including those in housing, health, faith groups, and schools, are being asked to help raise awareness of the campaign and the anonymous reporting service.

Information from the community is vital in reducing crime in the area, and Crimestoppers – as a respected, independent charity – provides a safe way to pass on information 100% anonymously. Last year in London, the charity passed over 15,000 pieces of information on crime, leading to arrests, seizures of weapons and drugs, and safeguarding vulnerable people.

Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, explained, “Crimestoppers is supporting ongoing work in Somers Town, Camden to tackle crime which is affecting local communities and residents. Fear often prevents people from speaking up, this Crimestoppers campaign is to remind people that we can all play our part in helping to make neighbourhoods safer for residents and their families.

We know that crime is on the increase across London and in the 12 months up to December 2024 there were 42,569 offences recorded in Camden. (ONS)

We want people to know that they have a safe and secure way to speak up about crime, whilst remaining completely anonymous.

By talking to Crimestoppers you could help to put a stop to the most serious crimes affecting communities and support a safer and stronger Camden for all.”
