New David Lloyd Colliers Wood Club celebrates official launch with local VIPs

The new David Lloyd Club in Colliers Wood has officially opened to members from 27 November, following an eight month development project. The new Club, in the Merton area of south-west London, hosted an official launch event and ribbon cutting ceremony for founding members and local VIPs, including Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, Cabinet Member for Sport and Heritage at London Borough of Merton Council.

The launch event welcomed over 100 of the Club’s first members, alongside local business leaders and community partners who enjoyed an exclusive look around the state-of-the-art gym, swimming pool and wellness facilities.

Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, who is also a local ward councillor for Colliers Wood, cut the ribbon alongside the David Lloyd Colliers Wood general manager Chris Wilkinson. Councillor Cooper-Marbiah shared a few words at the event, about what the new Club investment means for the local community.

Throughout the highly anticipated eight month development project, the Club generated huge interest from the local community with hundreds choosing to be among the first to secure a membership months before the Club opened.

Chris Wilkinson, General Manager at David Lloyd Colliers Wood, said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit our wonderful new Colliers Wood Club preview event, it was fantastic to welcome so many people and to showcase our stunning new facilities.

“Thanks also to everyone who has worked behind the scenes over the past 8 months to bring this Club to life. We’ve proudly created 85 new jobs for local people, and we are keen to do more with local business partnerships, supporting charities and schools.

“We can’t wait to embed further in this community and for people to enjoy all we have to offer now our doors are officially open.”

Speaking at the event, Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, Cabinet Member for Sport and Heritage, London Borough of Merton Council, said: “I am pleased to have been invited to the launch of this new health and fitness centre and would like to thank David Lloyd for inviting me. Having access to high quality sports and fitness sites in the borough is key to our ambition of becoming London’s first ever Borough of Sport.”

David Lloyd Colliers Wood offers a full suite of health and wellness facilities, including a centrepiece 100+ station gym, heated indoor swimming pool and kids pool, and luxurious indoor Spa Retreat with Himalayan Salt sauna, Finnish sauna, rainforest experience shower, crystal steam room, fire and ice room, ice cave, plunge pool, and hydrotherapy pool.

There are also five stylish boutique exercise studios for group classes including the David Lloyd Clubs Signature Classes: BLAZE, SPIRIT, 1GN1TE, CYCLONE and REBELS, alongside a dedicated Reformer Pilates studio.

In addition to the health, fitness, and wellness amenities, David Lloyd Colliers Wood features a calming Clubroom with a Business Lounge, family zone and indoor soft play area for children.

Members are also now able to book classes and coaching, including the junior Swim Stars programme which teaches children essential swimming skills in a fun and safe environment.
