A new Green Fashion exhibition opens on 19 March 2024 featuring sustainable fashion collection from Lan Huong, the leading Green Fashion designer who cuts the carbon footprint of clothing by using ramie fabrics. Clothing with 100% ramie is biodegradable & can be reused & recycled.

The Green Fashion exhibition is being held at LSBU Hub (London Road, SE1 6LN) and is part of new research led by Dr. Mai Khanh Tran (Mika) from London South Bank University (LSBU). The research project, ‘Green Fashion: A journey from Revolution to Revolutions’, is studying how Lan Huong uses ramie to reduce carbon emissions from clothing & inspires consumers to move towards greener lifestyles. A special guided tour of the Green Fashion exhibition on 19 March from 1-1.30pm led by Dr. Mai Khanh Tran (Mika) can be booked online.

LSBU Green Fashion exhibition visitors will be able to:
Immerse themselves into an exhibition space replicating the giant sketchbook of designer Lan Huong to learn how she uses ramie to make clothing and how ramie has been used in other contexts
Be pictured with 8 best pieces from Lan Huong’s clothing collection celebrating 50 years of the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and the UK
Join an interactive workshop to sketch and co-create the future of Green Fashion.

Green Fashion aims to minimise the environmental impact of producing clothes, ultimately without leaving a negative footprint. The LSBU Green Fashion research project is funded by The Academy of Marketing and Marketing Trust.

Dr. Mai Khanh Tran, LSBU Digital Marketing lecturer, said, “Because clothes make up 8-10% of global carbon emissions, my research is studying leading Green Fashion designer, Lan Huong, so we can better understand what the fashion industry must to do to stay within the global 1.5C warming target. We are looking at how the use of biodegradable ramie in Lan Huong’s clothing could offer Green Fashion solutions to other industries.

“From 19th to 23rd March 2024, LSBU Hub will be transformed with a pop-up exhibition where visitors can immerse themselves into a giant sketchbook of Lan Huong, learn how her ramie collection is made and how ramie has led to revolutions in industries, from furniture to agriculture. All exhibition visitors will also be able to have their say about the future of Green Fashion and contribute their ideas.”
