Lidl GB has confirmed that its new supermarket on Whalebone Lane South, Becontree Heath, will open for the first time on Thursday 8th July.
The store opening times will be between 8am – 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am – 5pm on Sunday, delivering Lidl’s offering of fresh, quality and great value produce. During the first week of opening, customers will be able to find exclusive deals and offers on selected products including a Cordl Wet & Dry Hand-Held Vacuum Cleaner on Thursday 8th July (£14.99), a Fruit Juicer on Saturday 10th July (£14.99) and a Deep Fat Fryer on Saturday 10th July (£9.99).
Part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn expansion and regeneration plans across Great Britain for 2021 and 2022, the store will create up to 40 new jobs for the local community. It will feature a 1,041m² sales area, an in-store bakery and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.
The new store will be providing surplus produce and customer donations to a number of local charities, including Community Resources for Change who deliver food parcels for people in need and operate a kitchen to provide meals for local people, who are mostly isolated. This is delivered through Lidl’s Feed it Back scheme, which is run in partnership with Neighbourly and connects Lidl stores up and down the country with local charities, foodbanks, community cafes and kitchens, putting quality food surplus to good use every day.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Colin Rimmer, commented: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Becontree Heath. It is fantastic that we are able to serve the local community our multi-award winning products that shoppers across the country have come to love. We are delighted to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area and look forward to welcoming everyone to our new store.”
As per government guidance, the wearing of face coverings in supermarkets is still mandatory across England. Lidl is operating a range of social distancing measures to help maintain a safe environment for both colleagues and customers.
Other measures that continue to be in place include dedicated cleaning stations at entrances, hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray and wipes for customers to use on their trolleys and baskets, protective screens at checkouts, as well as visors and face coverings are available for colleagues to wear. In addition, customers are encouraged to pay by contactless payment where possible.
